Tokyo Otaku Mode and MTV81 were one of the lucky few who had the opportunity to interview LiSA, check them out below.
OK, I have to first ask, who’s your little pink friend over there?
(Smiles) This is Momoco-chan. She’s a frog.
I’ve recorded my voice onto Momoco so she can speak and sing too, if you press the buttons on her back like this. (Momoco starts singing)
So Momoco-chan’s your fave?
I collect lots of characters, but Momoco-chan is the only one I’ve made into a hand puppet. She has one up on the others! (laughs)
You have loads of energy and charisma on stage. Have you always been like that?
Yup, I always have! I make happy music. Every day I tell myself “Today is another great day” – on any given day there’s definitely one good thing that happens, so I live my life with that in mind.
I also used to be in a band, doing street gigs, so I’ve always liked acts whose body language is based on their feelings. I love performing – there are miracles that can only happen during a show, with the audience’s voices and everyone’s energy.
You started out with an indie band, but did you want to sing for anime from the start?
Not at all. I was never an anime freak. When I was small I was just into the regular titles, such as Sailor Moon. I was more into punk before, such as Greenday and Avril Lavigne.
So when the Girls Dead Monster project came around, I was a bit hesitant. But I really connected with the character, Yui, and her passion for music, so I just went for it.
If you were to perform overseas, what would you want to convey to everyone?
I would like to put on a performance so that people overseas who have heard music created in Japan would happily think “This music was made here?!” when they visit Japan.
So, are you planning to go abroad in 2014? Where would you like to go?
Hmmm… Spain!
My friend went to Spain over New Year’s, and she said that they come together and eat grapes!
