[LiSA Blog 08/21/12] Crossing field

Hi.

Sigh...
I want to eat stiryfry.

But it’s hard to abandon sautéed greens...

But then again, maybe I want Taiwan Ramen...

DROOL
Oh!! Sorry! I got carried away with my food fantasies.
These are the adorable mascots for Q’s Mall-san.

(Random)
I went with my lovely lovely marina-san who loves Tarinai Futari[http://www.ntv.co.jp/tarinai/] so much.
I had sooo much fun!!
I could hear laughter coming from all directions.
Sometimes I would nod, like “Yes, yes.”
Sometimes I would burst out with “I know!!”
Sometimes I would laugh so hard I was bent over laughing.

Thank you so much!!
It was my first time at the Sky Tree, and looking up, with was kind of scary, since it reminded me of the fantastic view in the world of Sword Art Online[http://www.swordart-online.net/].
I couldn’t climb it today, but I wonder if I’d feel differently looking down from it than I did looking up at it?

Anyway. Today I’m going to talk about my 2nd single crossing field.
I’ve talked about crossing field a lot but it’s a really important song to me, so I’m going to talk about it some more.
Lyrics and music: Shou Watanabe-san
rrangement: Toku-san
We started on Crossing field in early 2011.
(Before the Shibuya Public Hall ~peace sign~)
And it was finished and recorded in May.
(After the outdoor ~LOVER”S”MiLE)
We worked on it really hard, for a long time, talking together about how we wanted it to be.
We wanted to capture those feelings in the anime, of the different characters who form a party together, and who believe in the people they’re fighting with. The feelings of trusting in your heart, of wanted to protect someone and fighting for them.
And I personally wanted to add in the idea that ‘I can keep my belief, and keep singing because you’re there and you believe in me.’
I wanted to get both of those things across in this song.
A year after my solo debut, I’m able to believe in myself and keep on going because all of you are here and you believe in me.
It’s those emotions that I put into this love letter (CD) and that’s what made it so special.
Shou-san and Toku-san wanted to really do justice to the world of Sword Art Online, which had no pictures yet. Everyone read the original work and we built the story in our heads over and over, and they revised the song over and over.
Shou-san’s bittersweet yet strong melody and Toku-san’s aggressive arrangement were so cool that the song pierced my heart the very first time I heard it.
When they recorded the instruments, they usually count down and record the drums, bass, guitar and piano all together, but the moment they said “Let’s do the first take!”, my heart was pounding so hard from the first note.
It’s like, every instrument has a part where it stands out most, and I could see the storyline there, of each one joining the fight in order.
Like, if this was Momotaro, the first bass part would be like “Monkey, go!” and then at the second verse, the piano “Next, Pheasant, go!” , and then one by one they’d all come out to fight.
The image is of fighting, but not of fighting alone. Fighting all together.
From the moment that first note began with me, inside my imagination, I was Momotaro-san.
(I’m Momotaro-san)
And then when we recorded the vocals, I had the image of the orchestral recording in my head, so I was able to really have a clear picture of the song I was recording, and it went really smoothly. I was so excited when it was done.
I kept the first part a little restrained, because you need some time before you can see the power of your opponent, right? And then the song came to the ending, I wanted to sing with more and more emotion.
I hope that all got across for you.
BTW, before I sang the bridge, which goes “Call out my name until you can hear me/I want to feel it more, the miracle of our meeting”, I like
“This is kind of dirty. Hee hee hee”
“I mean you know, ‘Call out my name’? Hee hee hee”
“Doesn’t that sound kind of dirty? “Call out my name” He hee hee?
“And especially cuz it says “want to feel it more”
(Too much giggling!)
They shut me down immediately. “You’re wrong! You’re not asking them to call out your name, you’re calling their name, you dummy.”
That’s a good memory.
[Note: There are no objects or subjects in the original song lyrics, so it’s unclear who is calling out whose name, which is why LiSA was confused about it.]
I still think it sounds dirty, either way.
(It only sounds dirty because you have a dirty mind)
We all put some much love into making these kids (songs) and when they were done, I was so excited I yelled “These are DERA Aamazing!!!!!”
They came out DERA cool!!! I was so excited.
Just like I wanted to get across in crossing field, I can believe in myself because all of you believe in me.
And since all of you believe in me, I can trust in what I think is cool.
So I can hold my head high and say “Crossing field came out DERA cool!!)
(I can shout it outloud.)
When you see crossing field together with the images from the anime, the lyrics and the pictures all fit so well that it’s really amazing!!
It became a really special song to bring you all with the anime.
I really love that part where the sky behind the hand changes at the line “I’ve invisioned so many skies” !!
I hope you’ll enjoy the song together with the images from the anime.
So tomorrow I’m going to talk about ‘Itsuka no Tegami’. Look forward to that!

Be Happy.
Today’s another great day!

BYE-CHIっ!
